On January 14th
or 15th 2010 someone broke into Brenda Cantrell’s gray1990
Pontiac Grand Prix and stole a Garmin GPS Model C330 (picture below).
The vehicle was parked in the upper parking lot at the
Morgan
County
High School
. Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Liberty Police
Department at 606-743-4385.
Theft at Well's Group
On
January 13th or 14th someone stole 4 batteries
from an excavator and a dump truck belonging to Well’s Group. These
vehicles were parked on top of Index Hill in the lot beside their
office. The batteries are described as Interstate Workaholic brand.
Anyone with information or that saw anything suspicious in the area is

Cougar Corner Shoplifting Case
On 01/06/2010 around 10:30 am a 50 to 60 year old
man was caught on video at Cougar Corner shoplifting. The unknown
male is described as having a heavy build and was wearing a denim coat
and camouflage pants and a black baseball cap. This unknown male stole
several items off the shelves before paying for his gas. He was
operating an older model yellow Ford Ranger pick up. If anyone can
identify this individual please contact the West Liberty Police

IGA Pop Machine Theft Case




These
photographs are of suspects stealing change dispensers from Coke pop
machine at West Liberty IGA. The
suspects appear to be a male that opens the machines and a female with
dark hair operating the vehicle. The
vehicle they are driving appears to be a 1990’s model white Dodge mini
van. The suspects had a key
to open the machines (no damage to machines).
We
ask anyone that may be able to identify this vehicle or suspects to

Purse Theft
On October 20th, 2009, Stella Gibson reports her black
purse stolen from a blue Pontiac Bonneville parked at the Gateway Head
Start on West Main Street between the hours of 4 and 6 PM. We ask
anyone that may have seen anything suspicious in that area to contact
Officer Sheldon Perry at 743-4385 or through our website.
WLPD Enforcing Ordinances for Sorghum Festival
During the 2009 Sorghum Festival the WLPD will be enforcing
city ordinances regarding the sale and use of Silly String, Hair Paint,
Itching Powder and, due to the complaints and concerns of parents last
year, the newly added Air Pellet Guns/Rifles. Parents are
encouraged to inform their child or children about the use of these
products during the Sorghum Festival to minimize the enforcement of
these ordinances.
ORDINANCE
RESTRICTING SORGHUM FESTIVAL BUSINESSES
ORDINANCE
NO. 09-09-98-02
WHEREAS,
the city council and Mayor of West Liberty do deem the annual Morgan
County Sorghum Festival, which is held in West Liberty, Kentucky, in the
fall of each year to be a public benefit, both culturally and
financially, and
WHEREAS, it is in the best
interest of the City of West Liberty that this festival be of high
quality, and that the city deems that the City businesses and the sale
of certain items should be regulated during the Sorghum Festival so as
to guarantee a high quality festival,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST LIBERTY, KENTUCKY:
1. That the sale and/or use of the items commonly known as Silly String,
Hair Paint, and Itching Powder are hereby banned during the Morgan
County Sorghum Festival.
2. It shall be unlawful and a violation of the provisions of this
ordinance for any
person or corporation to use or sell the items listed in Number 1 above
during the Morgan County Sorghum Festival.
3. This ordinance and restrictions contained herein shall only be
applicable during the period of time designated as the Morgan County
Sorghum Festival, which begins at noon on Wednesday, and including each
day thereafter until Sunday night at midnight of the week and weekend
which will be designated by the Sorghum Festival Committee as being the
Morgan County Sorghum Festival.
4. Any person or corporation who shall violate this ordinance shall be
fined in accordance with the Kentucky Revised Statutes, upon conviction
of violation of this ordinance. Each separate citation shall constitute
a separate violation.
5. This ordinance shall become effective upon publication as required by
law.

Burglary

/ 5 / 2009 - An outbuilding belonging to
Delbert Hall of Dragway Ct.
was broken into. Sgt Scott Adkins W.L.P.D. is investigating.
Taken were:
(1) Dell
computer, off-white in color
(1) Champion 3000 Watt generator - red
(1) Irobi straight shaft weed eater - blue
(2) boxes of assorted craftsman hand tools
(3) Garcia 5000 rod and reels – red
(1) Polan 2150 chainsaw - green/black
(1) each, craftsman 18v cordless drill, skill saw, electric drill - all
black
W.L.P.D. is asking the public to
observe for Mr. Halls property and report it to authorities right away
by telephoning 606-743-4385. We also remind the public to report
suspicious activity.
Yard Sale/Sidewalk Vendors Permits Required
As of April 26, 2004
the City of
West Liberty
created a Yard Sale/Sidewalk Vendors Ordinance 42604-2 that states:
No person shall conduct a yard sale
within the city without first obtaining from the City Clerk/Treasurer a
permit to conduct the sale, the fee for which shall be free; no person,
household or residential address shall be issued no more than four (4)
permits per year.
The West Liberty Police Department
will be enforcing this ordinance. The
penalty for violating the ordinance can be fined no less than $25.00 and
no more than $500.00. You can obtain the yard sale/sidewalk vendors
license at City Hall. The
license is free and only 4 per year will be issued.
Burglary

Anyone with information on the burglary that
occurred at Morgan Chevrolet on June 22nd, 2009, please contact the West

Burglary of Local Business - Morgan
County Adult Day Care



Sometime
after 4:30 on 6-5-09 and 11:30 6-6-09 the adult day care center in the
basement of the Health Dept was broken into. They gained entry by breaking
out a window and crawling through it. Once inside they took in the
neighborhood of $50 - 75 dollars that was there in various funds such as
coffee, bus, etc. They also took a digital camera that was in a filing
cabinet drawer. Not much of a description was given or able to be given;
just that it was a Cool Pix camera. The
West Liberty Police Dept would like information as to the guilty
party and/ or motive. Call 606-743-4385 or use our website to
